Dell Optiplex 7010
Hi
As of late if I power the pc down (dell optiplex 7010) when I restart it it wont go past a certain boot screen. It basically tells me theres an "Invalid configuration and time of day is not set and please run set up" Form there the only way i can find to get it back is . Power down. Restart while pressing f12 and then in the menu scroll down and select Windows Boot Manager. It then comes back to normal.
Have changed the battery as advised but no difference. What I have noticed it works fine if you leave the pc in "sleep mode"
Even tried disconnecting the power lead and unplugging it but as soon as I reconnected and switched back on at the wall the pc done a fan test and back to the same error page. F12 select Windows Boot Management and all fine again.
Any advice or thoughts and I would be greatful
Thanks

i cant see your screens or all screens from hard long power button pushed for 10 seconds and released,
5 second push works too for hard reset. intel rules there. chipset logic,
the power on, and the F2 screens show date and time, both must be set right here, if it keeps changing to wrong
hours, wrong date, that catastropic failure, RTC, bad coin cells, use meter yet, see 2.9v or less the coin is bad.
learn to use a voltmeter, and not guess, seen batteries from 12,000 away (my hint) and are all bad, new. every one. or in one month, or all start leaking chems, super bad that)
i can not see your screens, so therefore can not wax too smart, lacking such key facts, and order they happen.
the CELL casing is marked + plus this goes outward only, what you took out has no bearing on correct ever.
all that matters is CORRECT polarity, here.
wrong battery no 2032?
the BIOS did not lie to you the RTC if failing it told you that, and it is. OK
or
RTM
read the manual make sure the jumpers on the mobo ARE NOT SET WRONG.
MT only below, manual no PC told yet, its not just 1 PC, ok: the case tells me what mobo is there, ok?
https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-7010_owner%27s%20manual4_en-us.pdf
Ive no idea at all the history of this PC.
found it in garage sale like this (or dumpster diving like me)
or ran ok for 1 year and now fails, History matters.

It only shows PXE boot screens when the hard drive is not seen.
This is symptom of PHYSICALLY BAD DRIVE.
There are no soft fixes for BAD DRIVE.

This is classic symptoms of a bad CMOS backup battery. Since you say you replaced it, first thing is to verify its properly installed (polarity) and if not that possible the new battery is defective.

Thanks for the reply. Battery does appear to be installed correctly. It was replaced the same way as the old 1 came out. Purchased the batteries in a pack of 4 so will have another look and try 1 of the otheres, but im sure its correctly installed.
Thanks again

reset the bios after a new RTC coin cell is placed
f2
and set BIOS defaults
set time and date now,.
the turn off PXE , if seen , all mine have this and must be off.
then set boot order to HDD0 or SSD0 as may be the case.
then save bios and boot. do hard cold boots, only, zero aC power pulled, for 10min then plug in PC and hold power button for 5 seconds, at least and release it.
then go to F2 one last time is time and date right> it must be here, in the f2 pages.
this means the NVram is going ,scrambled, and means RTC battery is dead or way too low, volts.
Invalid configuration and time of day is not set and please run set up(f2)
or jumpers set wrong on mobo. (check them very carefully ok)

Thanks again for the replies. The case is the ( DT) desktop 7010. I have again tried changing the Coms cell battery with the 3rd one but no difference. When I power on the machine I get the bottom of the 2 images 1st. Have then got to power off and f12 where I get to the top picture. Have then got to scroll down and select windows boot manager to get the pc running again. have also F2 and checked the time which appears ok.
As mentioned if you leave the pc in sleep mod all is fine. Once shut down it reverts back to the second picture.
Would again be greatful of any advice or suggestions.
Sorry the pictures appear to be upside down.
Thanks again
