External SSD M2 not being recognized after disconnecting
I upgraded my OptiPlex 7060 with a new 1TB M2 memory and I used the old 250GB M2 as an external SSD on type-c port.
I formatted the external memory and successfully saved some files but if I disconnected the external SSD the system saw only an SSD with anallocated space. I tried to format and save files again but any time I disconnected the SSD the system saw only unallocated space.
I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me find a solution to keep the SSD configuration.
Thanks
Zon

If I understand correctly, you installed a 1TB M.2 SSD. The old SSD is used externally. When you disconnect the external SSD there is only an unallocated drive. Did you install Windows on the new drive or do you already have Windows on another boot drive?. From what I can gather from your post, and just to clear up the nomenclature the M.2 is not memory but an SSD storage device (there is a difference), it sounds like you have a boot drive and the 1TB is for storage, games, etc. If so you have to go to Disk Management and allocate and format the 1TB SSD.
When you connect the external SSD the system recognizes it as an active drive. When you disconnect that drive the system only sees the new SSD which has not been allocated or formatted. Can I safely assume when the external SSD is connected it is recognized again?

Try to clean the external drive with Diskpart to get rid of all hidden partitions. Then open Disk Management, initialize the drive (popup) and create with NTFS format (to hold large files).
