HELP OptiPlex 3010 Tower 2-3 solid amber light error code on the front...

What does this error code means? I’ve been using Linux on my system from around two weeks but I now want to go back to Windows, I freshly installed new windows and after going through all the steps, at final boot it didn’t load up, I saw the windows logo for a second but then I just saw “No Signal” on my monitor, I know my HDMI cable is damaged but how Linux was working good but not Windows?? I was playing games on Linux and Windows wont even boot up? It cannot be less power from my HDMI or main plug, everything’s good and my RAM sticks are completely fine, I cleaned them and placed them in different sockets, I don’t have a GPU, it’s the integrated Intel HD 4000 that is with my i73770, I only have one 4GB stick. So after getting this “No Signal” I got into BIOS and turned on Secure boot which made me get to legacy boot instead of UEFI, and well, I just made things even worse… Now I am getting this 2-3 error code which I don’t know what it is for. My pc turns on when I press the power button but I cant even access BIOS or literally NOTHING! All I see is “No Signal” on my monitor and just hear my computer’s fans… I think resetting the BIOS is the only thing I can do but how can I do it without being able to see anything…

Try replace cmos battery and clear cmos settings via motherboard jumper.

If you can get it POST then, enter bios to change sata operation to AHCI, confirm bios is UEFI, do not change anything  else, apply/save, exit bios, do a fresh clean OS install.

@redxps630 How can I clear the settings through the motherboard jumper? I'll try replacing the cmos battery...

Edit: Sorry, POST stands for something else, I removed that.

This forum -> https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-ca/000126021/a-reference-guide-to-the-dell-optiplex-diagnostic-indicators

Tells what every error code means, I hope this fixes my issue and help others' in the future...

The 2-pin CMOS jumper labeled RTCRST should be located on the system board. Move the 2-pin jumper plug from the password jumper to the CMOS jumper pins. The CMOS should clear after 10 seconds of plugging in the power cable.

When your cmos is corrupted the diagnostic code begins to sound like gibberish coming out of a drunk, figuratively speaking. thus clear cmos settings will hopefully sober it up and bring the Dell logo video back to display (assuming video cable and monitor are both good and securely connected).  For easier test use the basic VGA cable instead of HDMI/DP.  when CMOs is clear it would hopefully respond to F2 to enter bios

@redxps630 Ok, I'll try doing that, thanks. This (1-2 Blue power) code is so confusing, I don't even have an expansion card, my ports been bugging a lot recently but it might be a software issue in Linux, who knows. Right now, my PC is powered on and there are no error codes now, just blue power button light and the fans are running, no signal on monitor. I'll try jump resetting.

@redxps630 I had no error sounds btw

Hi @SuperNinja313 ,

BIOS settings need to be the same as when HDD/SSD was loaded with Windows.

Be sure to replace size 2032 CMOS battery as red suggested a ways above, besides the BIOS reset.  If your MB doesn't have 2 pins that say "CMOS," use RTCRST pins to reset.  Also, bad batteries cause many problems affecting BIOS and therefore affecting operation + throwing erroneous error codes as red explained differently.

Try replacing the damaged HDMI cable.  Luck may have ran out with it.  You should be able to use either HDMI or DP if your monitor also takes DP.
