Keyboard not detected

I have an optiplex that does not detect the keyboard so I cannot get into the bios. It keeps showing keyboard not detected. I tried the recommended steps remove the battery etc still nothing a ps2 keyboard also refused to work.

I am out of ideas. Could this be a defective motherboard?

thanks

You already tested a different motherboard and it worked.  I guessed it might be MB before that and you basically confirmed it and thought it might be the MB.

You removed the battery, but did you replace it with a new one?

What model is your Optiplex?

I take it your main keyboard is wired?  Might have to reload OS.  Not too many ideas I have for it.  If reloading OS doesn't work, motherboard may be faulty.

@bradthetechnut Yes the keyboard is wired I tried both ps2 and usb. Reinstalling the os? It is a fresh install I tried 2 different ssds same result. Maybe I need to get into the bios to change the settings. I also tried a linux mint drive no response. It cannot see no boot drive and no keyboard is recognized. I have an identical mobo that works without any problems with the drives

It's probably motherboard itself.

Before you call it a bad board try clear CMOs by putting jumper on RSTRCT pins.

What redxps is getting at is a BIOS reset.  Place blue jumper from PSWD pins to RTCRST pins.  Plug in PC for 10sec.  Unplug and place blue jumper back on PSWD pins.

@bradthetechnut Yes I tried it. The fans started spinning loudly after I removed the jumper from. With the jumper now back on the pswd pins the pc doesn't turn on anymore.

PC should be unplugged whenever working on the inside of it.  I think the motherboard may be a brick now.  Checking the PSU is a shot to see if it's still good.

@bradthetechnut It still works after I left it unplugged for a while. However the original problem is still there. No keyboard is not recognized on any usb or the ps2 port.
