Memory fix on OptiPlex 5040 SFF

Hello to anybody, I am new here and I hope somebody can help me, thanks. I have an OptiPlex 5040 SFF and I want to put more rams. Now I have 4 gb ram, model MT8KTF51264AZ-1G9P1, I dont know what frequency and it works only on 1 and 2 slots, when I try to put in 3 and 4 power led blinks several time in loop. I want to know how to unlock all 4 slots ram and if I can use dd3 ram with 1333 mhz, thank you very much and sorry for my english :) A great day to all :)

If you have a single ram stick it is supposed to be installed in dimm #1 or #2 both white slots for memory channel A.

to have dual channel configuration you can use 4 identical sticks which is easiest.

Optiplex 5040 support low voltage DDR3L only.  It does not work with regular DDR3.

Dell oem ram for 5040

Memory Dual In-Line Memory Module, 4GB, 1600, DR3L, P4T2F, Brazil Customer Center, Ss

4GB Single Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBX1)
Memory RAM module (DIMM), 2GB, 1600, 1RX16, 4G, DDR3L, U

Dual In-Line Memory Module, 2GB, 1X2G, 1600, DDR3L
Memory RAM module (DIMM), 4G, 1600, 1RX8, 4G, DDR3L, U

8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-E CC
Memory RAM module (DIMM), 8GB, 2X4G, 1600, DDR3L

8GB (2x4G) 1600MHz DDR3L Memory
Memory RAM module (DIMM), 8GB, 1600, 2RX8, 4G, DDR3L, U

8GB (1x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3L Memory
Memory RAM module (DIMM), 16GB, 2X8G, 1600, DDR3L

16GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBX2)

I would not try 1333 ddr3.  find 4x4 GB identical or matched DDR3L 1600 sticks for desktop only, non-ECC.  They are also called PC3L-12800.

@redxps630 Good morning to you and thanks for your help, really appreaciate it.
So on this pc what is the maxim amount of ram that support? Because when I check on internet, there are 2 models of 5040, SFF and MT.
So, only 4 or 8 ram module it will works?
If I put 2 gb module will not work?
And only ram module with 1600 mhz freqency will work?
Can I put 1 module with 4 gb and other one with 2gb ram?
Or should be the same, 4 with 4 gb module?

So in dual channel, it must be 4 modules, can`t use only 2 modules?

And yes, I have one module 4 gb, but when I try to put in slot 3 or 4, doesnt work, why not?

It can produce some damage if I try 1333 ddr3 module or why you are not try?

It is work only with 4x4 gb? If I use only 2, will not work? Why only 4x4 gb and not only 2x2 gb? Or what you mean by " find 4x4 GB identical or matched DDR3L 1600 sticks for desktop only".
Thank you and sorry for all questions, if is to many, hope you will help me and resport to all those questions, thanks again and I wish you a great day!

dual channel options:

4x4 gb

4x2 gb

2x 4 gb

2x 8 gb

4x 8 gb

the above are easiest to do

you can try 1333 low voltage ddr3L but no promise it would work

Prerequisite : has to be DDR3L low voltage ram

@redxps630 Hello, thank you for reply. So if I put only in slot 1 and 3 will work? If I put in 1 and 2 will not work? Because I test 1 and 2 and works, with 1 memory module, but when I put in slot 3 and 4 pc wont turn on, only power led blink. What do you mean by "bios does not like no ram in A but ram in B only.? And rest of my questions? Thanks again

@redxps630 Hello. Strange, then if not support, why I can test slot 1 and 2 with single module of ram and works, 1 is A and 2 is B, right? But not working in 3 and 4, 3 is A and 4 is B also.

when there is single ram, the recommended slot is white slot 1 on 5040 SFF board

https://techjury.net/blog/what-slots-to-put-ram-in/

the naming of slot A, B, 1, 2 can be confusing and layout vary between boards

to make it easier, for 5040 SFF single ram is recommended to be installed in 2nd slot from cpu when there are 4 DIMM

Dell board: when there are 4 DIMM, each memory channel has a white slot (0) and black slot (1)

5040 SFF:

slot 1,3 are white, black of A

slot 2,4 are white, black of B

A1 (slot 1) and B1 (slot 3) are typically reserved for a single channel, and A2 (slot 2) and B2 (slot 4) are considered to be dual-channel RAM slots.

@redxps630 Wow, I see, sound very complicated with slots, thanks for explain to me. Oh, so I should put my single module ram in slot 2? I put it in 1. 2 is B, right? And why is better? And still, why slot 3 and for dosnt work to test my single ram module? But 1 and 2 works with the same single module of ram. :( When you said 4 DIMM you mean 4 slots for ramm, 1, 2, 3, 4? If slot 2 are for dual-channel and I have only 1 module of ramm, why should not put in slot for single channel?

But what is difference between 5040 SFF and MT, I read that SFF can support 32 gb ram and MT only 16 gb of ram. Thanks again, take care!

OptiPlex 7040 (Micro) 16 Gb 2133 MHz (DDR4 Synch DRAM))
OptiPlex 7040 (SFF, MT) 4 64 Gb 2133 MHz (DDR4)
OptiPlex 5040 (MT) 4 16 Gb 1600 MHz (DDR3L memory only)
OptiPlex 5040 (SFF) 4 32 Gb 1600 MHz (DDR3L)

5040 MT is a typo

it can support same 32 GB max as SFF

Are sure 32GB is the max?  From 5040 spec sheet:  Up to 4 DIMM slots; Non-ECC dual-channel 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM, up to 16GB  Manual for the SFF concurs.

The difference between MT (mini tower) and SFF (small form factor) are the sizes.  I'd upload an image, but image upload hasn't been working like it should for a little while now.
