Monitors can't be fixed from here and are usually unrepairable. It is possible it died. If you have another monitor, may be try it on your PC to make sure.
check to verify power cable connection is tight both on monitor side and wall plug side. Plug it directly into wall outlet to test. Do you see a green light on lower corner when power button is pushed? My two bad Dell monitors gave gibberish video display but were not black.
Hey, thanks for your feedback, I've plugged the monitor into the wall by itself without the computer attached, there is no light that comes on, there is a power button but i can't seem to press it, i can press the buttons above it but not the power button. I've switched cords to see if i was sent a bad cord but it still doesn't work.

Is it a 2209wa monitor? if yes the power button is the lowest one. If you can not press the power button how do you tell whether the monitor works or not? p.4/35 https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_electronics/esuprt_display/dell-2209wa_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf
