My setup 7040 MT OptipleX, my experience w/ ram & m.2

Hello everyone. I have an OptipleX 7040 MT i7 6700 model. I have seen many posts here and other places about things not functioning how they should on OptipleX 7040 once upgrades were done.. I decided I will share "in detail" my experience with upgrading my 7040 mini tower. I'll start with ram. I initially ordered two 8gb ddr4 2133mhz ram sticks. When I recieved my ram I shut off PC , unplugged it, took everything plugged in to it off and moved it to a wooden table where I could work on it and get new ram in. My 7040 came with one stick of 8gb ddr4 hynix...The new ram was supposed to be crucial but I don't think it is. It is however ddr4 2133mhz 8gb 288 pin ram. Maybe it's ECC and what was already in my PC is nonECC I still don't know. I'll attach a picture of the first ram I ordered that it will not accept. It's the black two sticks in pictures.. So I snap it in filling up slots #1,#2, #3 and leaving slot #4 empty. When I tuned power on I get Amber light blinking 3 times , pause then 2 times pause..and three beeps ..I looked up codes and it was bad motherboard.. I saw many people who fixed this by reseating the CPU. I tried just putting in the new ram in slot 1&2 and taking the hynix stick that came in it out, still I got alarms and blinking. I tried every slot, one stick at a time, just one stick, the new ram just refused to work every time. So I ordered a stick of what was already in PC, the Hynix 8gb ddr4 2133mhz nonECC and it works fine and I now have 16gb ram. The hynix ram is the green sticks pictured below.. $29 on Amazon per 8gb stick. Waiting on two more hynix sticks now they should arrive tomorrow. I will add my info on that to this post or to this thread once I get them snapped in tomorrow.. So I strongly suggest

SK Hynix 2Rx8 PC4-2133P-NonECC UDIMM-TF

That is the exact ram I have found to be compatible with 7040 MT OptipleX. $29 each for 8gb stick on Amazon is what I paid.

Another thing I saw alot was people having issues using m.2 nvme SSD with their 7040 OptipleX. Many have reported slow read and write speeds. I use a Samsung Evo Plus 500GB nvme m.2 - PCie v3 installed in m.2 slot with an aftermarket heatsink and thermal pads with aluminum coil. (Also in pic attached ) I'm getting in the upwards of what the SSD is rated at. It maxes out at 3500 read and write I believe and I've tested it scoring in the high 2000s, 2900mbps, sometimes I hit 3000, 3200.  I think many people get confused because many they use different tests and think their drive isn't performing how it supposed to but really maybe it's the type of test and the measurements it uses that's throwing things off. That's what "I think.. "

I recently reseated my CPU again and cleaned everything, fans & all on inside, re-applied thermal paste to heatsink CPU. I think I'll get thermal protection for ram as well soon. Once I do I'll run tests on some temperatures with and without the extra thermal protection. I'll post results here once I do that.

One quick question. If anyone knows of a good way to get temperature readings using Linux OS please reply your suggestions. Ill investigate thoroughly about this after I make this post. I'm using Mint 19.3.

Updating software for nvme m.2 SSD on a Linux disto: I have used these terminal commands to update software to my Samsung SSD on Mint 19.3 for anyone like me who does NOT use windows.

sudo fwupdmgr get-devices (enter)

sudo fwupdmgr refresh --force (enter)

sudo fwupdmgr update (enter)

That should update software on your SSD for anyone who just uses Linux. Worked for me with Samsung Evo+. I'll edit this post with an accurate way to test read and write speed of SSD while using a Linux disto at some point today. There are many ways to test this. I'll show how to test from command line in Mint 19.3. I hope this information helps someone.

Happy new year to everyone. I hope all of you have a good year and a good life.

Ram I use:

Thats the 8gb SK Hynix ddr4 2133mhz nonECC I have found to work perfectly on my 7040 Mt. Sticker on it helped me locate the exact ram on Amazon.

Here is the ram that supposedly is same exact specs as the hynix but will not work.
