Need help for RAID Volume issue
Hello,
Need help for RAID Volume issue
I got this used PC with a HD in it and last year I ran out of room so added a 2nd HD and all worked great until recent when I changed the battery on the motherboard.
I easily changed the battery and then when booted got this Bios page 1 regarding RAID Volume and when keyed in CTRL i when to a 2nd page (I have subbed pics of Page 1 and Page 2a and 2b - reason for 2 pics of 2a and 2b is because the highlighted area cursor is on you cannot read what it says).
I have never used RAID Volume and do not know what this means. I read a little about it and sounds like some back up is created in the HD but I do not need this as I every week back up my PC stuff to external drives x2.
I need your help to select correct answer (I think it is 2. Delete RAID Volume but makes no sense as pics show Non-RAID Disk). I read that if select Reset Disks to Non-RAID it will delete the HD's - pls let's not do that! So you see this is all very confusing and I can sure use your help. I think the correct answer is Delete RAID Volume but am not sure about this.

RAID sees 2+ HDD's/SSD's as one. And it has its different versions.

Hi @Jarod Knowles,
It's not said what model Optiplex you have. Not all of them have the same BIOS.
I don't know why your photos weren't approved. About the only thing I can think of is may be the service tag (private info) was in them?
So, based on the info given so far: At startup, press F2 repeatedly to enter BIOS. Change setting from RAID to AHCI.

1) Sorry forgot to add the Dell PC is Optiplex 780 I bought used at a PC shop.
2) 3 pic I sent are harmless pics of Bios pages 1 and then page 2 so did not know they were not shown.
Basically page 1 is
RAID Volumes:
None defined
Physical Disks:
Port Drive Model Serial $(unclear of this is $ or # or whatever)
0 ST5////// (long # and maybe this is why they did not show pages as these are ? serial #'s) Size 465 Type/Status (Vol) Non-RAID Disk
2 ST1///// (long # and maybe this is why they did not show pages as these are ? serial #'s) Size 934 Type/Status (Vol) Non-RAID Disk
Press CTRL i to enter Configuration Utility....
Okay so when I press on CTRL i we go to what i call page 2 and it describes as :
[MAIN MENU]
1. Create RAID Volume
2. Delete RAID Volume
3. Reset disks to Non-RAID
4. Recovery Volume Options
5. Exit
Below this [MAIN MENU] we get the same exact info I typed before as page 1:
RAID Volumes:
None defined
Physical Disks:
Port Drive Model Serial $(unclear of this is $ or # or whatever)
0 ST5////// (long # and maybe this is why they did not show pages as these are ? serial #'s) Size 465 Type/Status (Vol) Non-RAID Disk
2 ST1///// (long # and maybe this is why they did not show pages as these are ? serial #'s) Size 934 Type/Status (Vol) Non-RAID Disk
So you see this page 2 is asking me to select 1 to 5 options and I think we need to select 2. Delete RAID Volume
3. I had already tried to F2 a into the setup and change it to ACHI (right now it is set to something along the lines of RAID Autodetect/CHI but not sure as would need to restart PC and check. Let me post this t you and restart PC and come back and give answer.

Okay I am back, took a while as when I hit F12 on this PC the KB is disabled so had to to restart and with one hand unplug /replug KB cable and other hand hit F12.
Okay so in the Optiplex Setup we go to Drives/SATA Operation and there are 4 choices:
RAID Autodetect / ACHI
RAID Autodetect / ATA
RAID On
Legacy
Now it is selected as RAID On,
I have already tried to select RAID Autodetect / ACHI but PC will then malfunction and does not work.
So the only solution I think is to select from the page 1 Bios explained at beginning of my notes where we press CTRL i to enter Configuration Utility.... which leads us to a page 2 and there we have to select one of the 5 options but which one (without erasing anything on these 2 HD's?)
5 choices are:
[MAIN MENU]
1. Create RAID Volume
2. Delete RAID Volume
3. Reset disks to Non-RAID
4. Recovery Volume Options
5. Exit
For me it looks like 2. Delete RAID Volume but scared to try it and accidentally erase stuff.

Hopefully all of your important files and/or data are backed up outside of PC.
You can certainly try deleting RAID volume. If that doesn't work, with just the boot drive plugged in, reload OS with BIOS set to RAID Autodetect / AHCI.
Boot drive has to be used in the same mode it was loaded in. So, if it was loaded in Legacy mode, and BIOS is switched to AHCI, you'll likely get "No boot device found."
Does it boot at all with 2nd drive unplugged?
When you delete RAID volume, you might try it with storage drive unplugged. Then find your files/data on the storage drive after reloading. Deleting RAID volume does delete data. Some articles that might help: https://www.google.com/search?q=does+deleting+raid+volume+delete+operating+system&oq=does+deleting+raid+volume+delete+operating+system&aqs=chrome..69i57j33i160l2j33i299l2.35124j1j4&client=ms-android-americamovil-us-revc&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

Upon some forethought - If you didn't have a RAID volume before changing the battery, you shouldn't now. That BIOS might not be something to get stuck on, other than to change it to AHCI. But as long as PC doesn't boot when set to AHCI, it makes me wonder what mode it was loaded in. You might try Secure Off and Legacy Option ROMs on.
What OS do you have?

I meant to say "That BIOS error might not be..."

BTW - That Bios page I am getting stays there a few seconds then system goes to windows, it is just an annoying page that seems to be asking me to config RAID (I never had this before I changed the battery, bizarre)
OS is Win 10 64 pro
I will later try a test (unplug the HD 2 that has all the important data) and then reboot to see if that Bios page shows up, if it is gone then this Bios page is related to HD 2 and we can move with that.

The problem occurs if you are using two hard disks in your laptop ( ssd+ hdd) and any power failure happens to your laptop. To fix it you have to do
1) remove your hdd ( not ssd bcz ssd's have low probability for failure).
2) restart system
3) go to bios option ( press f12 while restrarting)
4) go to system configuration
5) go to sata settings and change RAID TO AHCI
6) save changes and restart
Then it will boot from the OS. NO DATA WILL BE LOST and you dont need any reinstalling of OS.
