Need to install SSD card on Optiplex 980

I tried to install SSD card but the computer doesnt seem to recognize it. I installed the SSD on a PCI4 adapter and fixed it on the white PCI4 slot and restarted computer but it can not see the drive. What else do I need to do with the BIOS?

I also have an Optiplex 980. I added a 2GB AMD Radeon graphics card, which works great, and the next is the SSD. From searching YouTube videos I think I understand that there might be drivers or an installation disk, or rather updates available on the Internet. If I can be of any assistance, let me know. I have the mid-size desktop model Optiplex, I think it's a mini-tower. Not the largest one, but not the smallest either.

One question I have is; what should the SSD be used for exactly? One idea is to install Windows or rather boot-up files on the SSD for faster startups? But, since I have the i7 processor with 16 GB Ram, my boot-ups are relatively fast (under a minute usually). So, what benefit is the SSD going to be to this system?

SSD's speed up overall responsiveness.  Gamers also prefer SSD's and some put their games on 2nd HDD.  If you think your PC is fast now wait 'til you install an SSD.  My boot time is just over 20 sec., some are even faster.  My previous 755 managed to boot in 17 sec. with SSD.

Preferences will vary, and here's mine.  I have OS and small files, like word.docs, pdf's, etc., on the SSD.  Larger and large quantity files, like music, are on an HDD.  Saves me time if changing OS and/or drives.  I still have all files backed up outside of PC.

Another preference is I loaded Win10 with a DVD.  It will automatically partition the SSD.  I did format SSD to GPT and partition with NTFS.  While I may have not needed the 2nd step due to Win10's automation, I wanted to make sure PC saw SSD for loading.  After formatting with previous HDD/Win10, I installed SSD and unplugged HDD with music.

If you have any product key questions, please let us know.  I used product key that came with my DVD.

SSD''s are more efficient, using only 5v vs. 12v.

My favorite SSD adapter:  https://www.amazon.com/ORICO-Adapter-Mounting-Bracket-Interface/dp/B01LZWX6PD/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=orico+ssd+adapter&qid=1621624930&sr=8-3

Keep in adapter still goes in original blue caddy.

A cheapy can mount SSD wrong, and tab hanging down from blue caddy gets in the way of connections.

Helps to also know - Which do you have - 1 or 2 HDD bays?  Likely 2 if you have MT.

"After formatting with previous HDD/Win10, I installed SSD and unplugged HDD with music."  To clarify, I left SSD in after formatting it.  Music HDD remained unplugged.  Former Win10 HDD was removed.
