no bootable devices found

Hi,

I just bought a  new Dell OptiPlex 7070  and tried to install Ubuntu from a bootable USB and it was shown successfully. But when I  restarted the computer without the USB, I got error "no bootable devices found".

I reinstalled once but still got same error even I  tried "Restore Settings"  as "BIOS Defaults"
and "Factory Setting" in BIOS.  If I check "UEFI" there is not any  "Boot Sequence" shown in BIOS, see the attached picture. If I click "Add Boot Option", the default file cannot been found.

How can add boot option or are there any other options to find the harddriver?

Thanks. /Jing

Install windows 10 first.

Then install 18.04.5 alongside windows.

There is NO  SUPPORT for any Linux unless it shipped from Dell with Linux.

There is NO FREE Linux support of any kind from DELL or Canonical.

The system must be prepared to take ubuntu BEFORE installing it aka diskmgmt.msc shrinks the windows partition to allow linux to reside on an open area of the disk.

Installation type is NEXT  most important step in the Ubuntu installation. Here, select  Something else to install Ubuntu 18.04 along SIDE Windows 10

This is not a single step single reboot water chicken install.  There is support for this it is NOT free.

Dell does not support ANY Linux if it was not shipped with Linux from dell.

The 7070 is certified for Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS

http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04/ubuntu-18.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso

There is support for ubuntu from canonical and Dell.

Said support is NOT FREE.  Any ole version of linux is not supported.  USB live booting with casper persistence with secure boot off would work.  Best bet is to install UBUNTU alongside windows where windows 10 is installed first.

https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201810-26611

Models past skylake are Secure boot only.

Live booting Ubuntu might work but ONLY with secure boot off.

Legacy booting is NOT ALLOWED with newer models for internal sata or nvme.

These models are WINDOWS 10 only Secure boot only.

There is no legacy booting internal and there is no CSM.

Legacy Boot mode and internal boot devices. With the Boot option set to Legacy boot mode on newer series of Dell systems, you will be unable to boot to internal boot devices (including HDD, SSD, or eMMC storage devices).

Hi,

Thanks for your quick responses.

If I understand correctly, the error is the version of Ubuntu which does not support 7070 ?

I am asking this because I will consider to install Windows 10 or try again with Ubuntu 18.04.

Thanks /Jing
