Optilex 980 vga port does not work

Optilex 980 vga port does not work. DVI port is fine. I am not sure if display port connector will work.

What shall I do to have vga port working? I need two monitors connected.

What size is your 980 - MT, DT, or SFF?  Components and abilities can vary by size.  Please see image below.

What VGA port are you trying to use?  The onboard VGA or VGA on a GPU card?

If you're using a GPU card, that automatically disables onboard graphics, including the VGA.

It's USFF.

I am using the port at the back of the tower.

In Bios there are only two options- Auto and on board/card.

Tomorrow I'll make pictures of the back and the front and post it here.

Actually mine does not look like any you posted above.

FrontFront

BackBack

I just connect a single monitor thru vga and the PC does not "see" it. The cable is fine as I checked it with my laptop.

So what shall I do to have vga port working?

wants VGA

2 fixes only'

  • Remove the card OR
  • set BIOS to igpu. (turn off auto) do not use PCI-e option of the 3)

just 3 clicks power on, F2, click auto off and iGPU on.  bingo.

no PC told (size matters says my email spam and here too) OK USFF

so the card is DVI,

no GPU Card told (But no matter really)

so in auto mode, the Card wins, DVI wins and igpu (the intel CPU + GPU = iGPU0 are OFFLINE. this is normal

and in the monitor learn now to force its ports used to what is connected now.

no monitor told if 10,000 models made.  models matter too. (what ports it has are OPTIONAL and what you want to use untold, yet.

mY PC here as 6 ports for video

you do know with GPU card present the iGPU ports (not card ports) go OFF LINE right?  BIOS video, page ("AUTO")

Thanks for responding. I have only two options in Bios about Video- Auto and onboard/card. None or them worked.

I don't see iGPU in Bios.

Thanks for posting the photos of your PC.  Your PC is an SFF.  The 980 didn't come in an USFF.  USFF Optiplex's don't have expansion slots for cards.

If you want to use VGA and DVI, or HDMI, or DP, the best bet is too have a low profile GPU card that has the ports you want.  It doesn't look like you'll be able to get the onboard  VGA working as long as a GPU card is present.

I'm not sure how easy that advice is.  I looked at a couple of cards, low profile version, and they didn't have VGA though the regular versions do.  And of course I doubt you want to go too far back and have lower graphics.

In my previous 755, I used a Dell ATI Radeon 4350 which worked great on my 1600x900 (if I remember right) monitor.  I also looked at the 3450, but it was the same thing - no VGA on the low profile version.

I'm not a gamer or computer programmer, so there might be other expert(s) in this forum that have suggestions for GPU cards.  Is it possible for you to give up VGA?

Is there a possibility that DVI and Display Port will both work at the same time with my configuration? Then I'd buy a DP to DVI convertor.
