Optiplex 1080, hardware diagnostics from BIOS

Hi,

I've finally come to the DELL forums on my (extremely) broken browser, with this site all messed up for me currently. I hope this has been posted in the correct place. This is my introductory post for the DELL forums. I hope to remain here for some time, to learn about the DELL BIOS and some other things.

My computer (and favorite desktop model of the DELL line) is an Optiplex 1080. This one is the SFF model version, but it doesn't matter too much to me.

I have arrived here with a keen interest in DELL systems, from a place quite far away (and long ago!)  with a question, about the hardware BIOS test/diagnostics for the video card/memory.
This computer is using the standard, built-in, integrated Intel Graphics chip. It failed the test once but I fixed it. Though, I still have some questions in regards to some-things I am the most passionate about, in DELL systems and the BIOS and hardware of computers overall.

This question probably doesn't apply only to the Optiplex model/s, so I didn't want to post it there.

Also, where can I find the hardware diagnostics logs files? I saved them to have another look. I can post them here if anyone could lead me to where they are saved.

My question is as follows,

The graphics/memory test failed and gave me some info. It gave me the address it began at, ended at, what it expected, and what it got.

- It began at either 0x0 or 0xe3f0000 - ended at either 0x01010101 or something like 0xe30fff0

- It expected some color and what it got was a different shade of grey.

- In the next test, which passed, I noticed the bottom-half of the screen (the one to be taken over by grey) kept what was on screen before testing began. In the test that failed, the bottom  half of this screen was just black. In both tests the same: a grey/white/black bar going down the screen, replacing what was there with plain grey.

I managed to work out that the start/end and expected/s were the color grey. I think that the expected value was this grey color, or the black.

So...

- Where can I find the log file for this, to provide more accurate info, and look into it once again?

- Can you tell  me some things about this test? I want to understand it more; if you don't know where to start, start anywhere, or, the thing I want to do is work on changing these addresses/colors (the returned color was different at the ending address than what (grey) was expected. Can I put something there? Will it be an image? Can I put images there?) or put code into that there to see what happens... If it executes, shows an image, what I can do with it etc.

Let's talk about the graphics test on the DELL diagnostics and some information you guys have on this, to help me better understand. This is a good way for us to start talking, so we can become more familiar with one-another around the forum!

And,

Edit: "Can I put something there" - Can I change the value of this address, or add to it? I am assuming that it was different because it's either got something in that address it lands on, has added too much to it/overflown, or because it points to some memory which was used but overwritten in this test.

See you around.
- Muis
