Optiplex 3000 Micro, no 4K output over HDMI 1.4
While browsing through the Dell product pages for a suitable option for a meeting room PC that we will connect to a 4K TV, I came across the Optiplex 3000 Micro. It seemed to fit the bill as far as performance and connectivity are concerned. I did a little digging into the video output and on the Intel pages, the UHD770 combined with the i5 12500T were confirmed as supporting 4K output. All well and good I thought, so jumped in a bought a couple for our meeting rooms.
Then the issues began. No 4K output at all. Maximum available resolution was 1920x1080. HDMI cables changed, ports changed on the rear of the display. No dice. Still maximum of 1920x1080.
So I gave in and approached Dell support. Message received that a support rep would be in touch within 1 working day. Chased them up and finally received a response today with the following =
"Anyways, regarding your inquiry. Retail Intel specifications do NOT apply our Dell OEM specifications. You can refer to the Optiplex 3000 display support matrix on page 17. If you're using the integrated HDMI port, the maximum resolution on board HDMI1.4b is 1920x1200 60 Hz. Your other option to get the 4k resolution is to use the integrated Display Port or purchase the add on I/O HDMI card with 4k feature."
So, what Dell are now telling us is that the supposed 4K capable device is only 4K capable when using DisplayPort.
Now, to achieve 4K over HDMI, we are supposed to buy an add-in card?
