Optiplex 3000 tower PSU

OptiPlex 3000 Tower

OptiPlex 3000 Tower

How can I add a graphics card with 6 pin connector to an Optiplex 3000 tower ?

I cannot find either an adapter or a power supply (That would cost me less than a case plus a motherboard and an ATX PSU).

the 3000 tower mobo differs from the mid range and high end 5000/7000 tower in that the 3000 being entry level model has only one 4 pin cpu connector. while 5000/7000 have two.  other than that all use Dell proprietary ATX12VO 8 pin connector.  it is possible but not confirmed that you may use the 400w psu for 5000/7000 or 500w psu for 7000 in the 3000 tower.  such psu has one 8 pin and two 4 pin.  if you test this, leave one of the 4 pin unconnected obviously as the 3000 mobo has only one 4 pin socket.  these psu have 6 pin black pcie connector for gpu.  for this test it is best to have seller accept return in case it does not work out.  there is no risk other than the possible incompatibility, but maybe worth a try.

you may also experiment with the 460w psu for XPS8950 which use same 8-4-4 pinout as the 400/500w psu for optiplex.

such psu cost at least USD 99 currently.
