Hello ASSAFFOS,
Regarding the PSU upgrade, the Dell authorized PSU's for this model are limited to a maximum of 265W based on the version(Desktop, Mini Tower or Small form factor). The power requirements of the GTX 970 are considerably higher.
You will find a list of available GPU's for this machine here.

Only MINI TOWER and Only Short Cards and Only with Proprietary Adapter.
Very Similar to the Inspiron 620, 3847 MT
The Power Supply in the TOWER can be updated with an adapter.
Dell OptiPlex 3020 PSU Main Power 24-Pin to 8-Pin Adapter Cable (30cm)
Suitable for Dell OptiPlex 3020 / 7020 / 9020 / T1700

EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B1 110-B1-0750-VR would be recommended.

Since all GPU's are now wicked expensive I would Recommend this instead of the 970

Thanks a lot Speedstep for your quick response.
I already got the GTX 970 (used at a reasonable price) so I would like to try and purchase a new PCU. Is it a must to purchase the superNova 750 or any PSU with >500W and the right connectors should work?
Is DELL PSU the same size as standard PSU?
