Optiplex 3031 hangs after reboot for hours

My Dell Optiplex hangs for ever...

I ran diagnostic and received Error Code 2000-0142 , and Validation 88928 .

Couldn't find any clue regarding the above mentioned Validation number .

Any suggestions (I have lots of important data on my hard drive) ?

Please Help...

2000-142 is drive failed self test.

Time for a new drive (or upgrade to SSD).

Backing up data apparently has never been done, and now it appears to be needed.

If it works at all, you may be able to copy the user data to some other media.  If not, there are companies that specialize in data recovery but they are very expensive.

@zvi4u

@fireberd  I agree its dead Jim

Unfortunately,  Dell ePSA error code 2000-0142

is a hard disk failure.

There are no soft fixes for physically bad drives.

Ontrack data recovery can likely retrieve your data however its not cheap.

$350 for diagnostics and $3500 for recovery of files.

Six months after the crash, engineers were able to find the remains of a hard drive from the shuttle burned and buried in the ground in texas. NASA sent this hard drive to Kroll Ontrack in hopes of recovering as much data as possible. John Edwards, an engineer from Kroll Ontrack, and his team, took on the mission and recovered all the data.

If they can recover a drive that fell from the sky its likely they can get your data back.

Another recommended company is Drive Savers.

  • 24/7 Customer Service

  • Free Shipping
  • No Data — No Charge (Ontrack Charges for diag regardless)

@zvi4u  Your Drive is dead and requires professional recovery at a steep price.

users  should not try to recover data if that data is important. chkdsk and windows explorer will NOT SEE a drive that says its BAD in BIOS.

Doing so can make it impossible for Ontrack or Drive Savers to open the drive in a cleanroom lab environment and transfer the platters to a working drive to recover the data.

These vendors have relationships with Seagate, Western Digital,  Toshiba that allow them much more information about any given drive than an end user.

There are only 3 drive makers left in the world.

before pronouncing EOL for the hdd, try remove it, install a spare good hdd then install Windows 10 on it. After install, power down, reconnect old hdd, press F12 after power on to access boot list and try to boot from OS on the good hdd.  If POST and boot are successful, open explorer to see if Windows can detect old hdd as a second hdd. If so, try repair the hdd.
