Ordering above with SSD drive. No HDD. Will it come with caddy so I can add a 3.5" Surveillance camera drive?

Thank You

the 3.5 hdd cage is always included because it is a part of odd/hdd module.  the odd depends on the hdd cage for mechanical support in sff.  this concept has been used by Dell engineer since 9020 sff.

the caddy or bracket is a separate metal piece part discussed in this thread https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/3-5-quot-HDD-bracket-and-cable-needed-for-Optiplex-3080-SFF/td-p/8142526

If your pc product spec says "575-BBKX : No Hard Drive Bracket, Dell OptiPlex" then you may not have the removable metal 3.5 caddy.

if you really do not have it you can buy it on eBay.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/175161708972

this tear down guide shows you the hdd/odd module ka02R0000001D5BQAU_en_US_12

even though the service did not mention 3.5 hdd, it is supported in sff per spec.

Primary Hard Drive1,5 3.5-inch, 500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA HDD (Tower and Small Form Factor only)
3.5-inch, 1 TB, 7200 RPM, SATA HDD (Tower and Small Form Factor only)
3.5-inch, 2 TB, 7200 RPM, SATA HDD (Tower and Small Form Factor only)
3.5-inch, 4 TB, 5400 RPM, SATA HDD (Tower and Small Form Factor only)

Dell service manual server is down now but you can review it here

Normally, I'd have no trouble answering.  But right now the Dell site isn't working for downloading or viewing service manuals.  Plus, I lost some stuff when I had to change phones.

If the 3080 has 1 HDD slot:  You would need a 2.5" HDD to to with the SSD.  Then a dual adapter that holds 1 or 2 SSD's, or 1 or 2 2.5" HDD's, or a combo of 2.  The assembly then goes into a blue caddy just like the one you're thinking of.  May need to still review thread linked below.

If 2 HDD slots, then you'll need to review this thread.  You might not need a metal bracket to start with if your 3080 comes with SATA SSD (credit card sized, 2.5").  It's not mentioned what type of SSD your 3080 is coming with.

It's also not mentioned if buying new, refurb, or used.  You'll have to find out from the seller about what certain aforementioned parts it comes with.

Would order system with M.2 drive, no HDD. I need to add a 3.5" (removing from old Optiplex system) drive and want to know if the drive tray/caddy is in new systems. I am not sure if we would go new or refurb, I would think they would be the same.

Thank you

Thanks for the info.  If ordering new from Dell, chances are it won't come with the HDD parts if they're not listed.

If ordering refurb, then it depends on he seller.  It also depends on how it was originally configured and if the seller changed any of it.

If ordering new, may be order it with the cheapest HDD also so the parts are there.

Also, chances are it's 1 slot for 3.5" drives.  I was just looking a a tech guide for another Optiplex model amr the SFF's came with 1 HDD slot, besides the m.2 slot.

Hi @redxps630,

So then my question would be this - Why is there blue caddies being sold and advertised for the 3080 SFF?

Re: Why is there blue caddies being sold and advertised for the 3080 SFF?

vendor ad info can be incorrect.  Dell has changed design from 3070 to 3080 sff.  whereas the hdd caddy is blue plastic in 3070, it is replaced by all metal one in 3080 sff.

if you watch the tear down video of the two sff you may see how the hdd cage is designed differently.

3070 uses a hex metal pillar that screws on motherboard to support the cage.

3080 gets rid of the pillar and uses a flat metal ridge or shelf to support the cage.3080sff3080sff

PS it is easy to confuse the 3080 and 3070. even the respectable youtuber Mxkdi has confused 3070 and 3080.  In this video of his titled 3080, he was actually tearing down a 3070. Dell Optiplex 5080, 3080 Upgrade Video Card SSD - YouTube

since you asked why, Dell just wants to mess up your brain more, because in 5080/7080 SFF and 3090 SFF they uses a blue plastic 3.5 caddy again.  Dell's infinite wisdom.

looks like the metal cage bracket in 3080 is a unique one time only design that Dell decided to scratch.

Quick add-on: Bought the 3090 and it has a HDD caddy, now humming away (quietly).

Oops, my bad. It is a 7090, not 3090. Great system so far.
