Optiplex 5000
One of my clients just purchased an Optiplex 5000 (Intel onboard graphics) on my recommendation, and the lower display port seems to be dead. We've checked the cables and the monitors- all possible combinations of which work fine with the top port, but nothing from the bottom one. It doesn't appear in Windoze Device Manager.
Of course this is a new client, and this situation has me not looking very good. I've seen one other post on the subject where someone ordered three of these units and all had the same problem. Has anyone heard if this is a Thing, and if there's any fix besides returning the unit?

Assuming you have the tower version of the 5000, the manual has this requirement for the 2 display ports in the manual
● Two DisplayPort 1.4a (HBR2) ports
● One optional video port (HDMI 2.0b/DisplayPort
1.4a/VGA/USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with DisplayPort Alt
mode)
NOTE: Download and install the latest Intel Graphics
driver from www.dell.com/support to enable multiple
displays.

I didn't see the note about updating the graphics driver until just now. The wording would seem to suggest that multiple displays are not enabled from the factory. That baffles me.

I think Mary's (or the manual's) note about the driver was just to ensure you had the latest fixes. Even without explicitly downloading the latest driver — or having SupportAssist take care of it — Windows Update should have delivered the latest version blessed by Dell for the 5000. The quote from the manual references an optional (via factory order) third output via a USB-C physical connector, but the two DP outputs should "just work". Re your comment about Display Manager, the single Intel UHD Graphics controller manages both DP outputs.
I don't know how your client's specific support works (e.g. if you're a VAR or something) but regular consumers in the US get a year of on-site support. If it's indeed a hardware problem I imagine it would involve swapping out the motherboard.
