Optiplex 5060 vs 7060 MT

Why did Dell make an Optiplex 5060 and 7060 when they appear to be the same PC. Dell's number system has always confused me.

7060 has higher spec than 5060 although the two have overlap configurations.

Intel® Core™ i7-8700 (6 Cores/12MB/12T/up to 4.6GHz/65W); supports Windows 10/Linux

so you can get a relative low end 5060 with pentium cpu, while that is not offered in 7060.  the difference is sort like toyota LE and XLE, some of the high end options of 5060 are standard features of 7060.

It's just common business practice.  Dell creates tier systems pricing for basic, midrange, and high-end models.

The basic tier model, 3060 MT, comes with different chipset, reduced features, has only 2 DIMM slots, supporting less memory capacity, and no USB type C 3.1 port.

The midrange, OptiPlex 5060, is almost identical to the high-end, OptiPlex 7060.  The differences are the Dell OptiPlex 7060 MT comes with a legacy PCI slot on the motherboard, and the Serial and PS2 ports on the back panel.  While there is no PCI slot on the 5060 motherboard and the Serial and PS2 ports are optional purchases on the 5060 MT.
