Optiplex 7020 sff (2024 Model) v1.20 Bios Update problem.
I have tried with all different methods to update this specific model to bios v1.20 (released 15 Oct 2025) from Bios v1.19.1 but i get stuck at 0% of flash process upon restart.
The only way to proceed is to unplug the power cord and boot to Windows.
Methods tried:
Updating through Standalone Bios Update Utility.
Updating through Windows Update
Updating Using a USB Flash Drive
Updating through Dell Command Update.
Any help will appreciated.

Hi
Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.
Can you post the link to the BIOS download page please.

Hi
Well the most obvious thing to me is to do an ABSOLUTELY CLEAN SHUTDOWN, twice, before trying the update.
Windows has the habit of not releasing the HDD/SSD/NVMe hold it has on the device.
So No Fast Startup, no hibernation, sleep or suspend or anything like that to be active.
AND Before updating the BIOS, ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption on a BitLocker-enabled system.
Then the F12 method should progress normally.
NB: You posted the wrong Model, the Optiplex 7020 SFF is an 'End of Life' product, the Optiplex 7020 Plus SFF is current, hence my confusion.

Please try to read my Posts more carefully before commenting.
In the Title of my post i wrote that my PC is the 2024 Model.
The 2024 Model comes in 2 flavors as was the 2023 Model called Optiplex 7010
Optiplex SSF 7020 This is my Model.
Optiplex SSF 7020 Plus. The main Difference being the 3 Display Ports as Display Outputs..
In addition i wrote that i tried most methods and Specifically Updating Using a USB Flash Drive which is the F12 Method on Boot.
I will try the Clean Shutdown....and i will write back...
Thanks

Re: get stuck at 0% of flash process upon restart.
if you tried a bootable USB containing Dell bios.exe and this occurs, it has nothing to do with Windows.
before you bang your head on wall to overcome this issue, why do you need to update bios any way in this relatively recent model? Update bios only when it is absolutely necessary. The bios has a built in UEFI firmware capsule update feature which would automatically update bios with super user privilege so you can be hands off let AI take control of maintenance.
some user tried so hard to update bios ending up bricking motherboard.

@redxps630 I was stuck at this point after restart because i got served the new bios from Windows Update...i didn't tried to install it my self in the 1st place. After the unsuccessful attempt from Windows update i tried the other installed methods...
Anyway i managed to downgrade my bios from version 1.19.1 which was retracted from Dell Support page days upon release last September but i had already applied it, to version 1.18.1 and know i am waiting to see what happens...
Maybe this is my problem at the 1st place...we will see.
I will post back any new development...regarding this issue...
Thanks for your reply...
