Optiplex 7080 MT front universal audio jack not detecting mic
We plugged a V-MODA mic/headset 3.5mm combo connector into the front of the 7080 MT, but only the headphones are detected via Realtek. The mic is nowhere to be found. This headset has worked fine on other Mac/PC/XBOX systems.
The 7080 MT specs say the front single audio jack is a Universal Audio Jack (UAJ).
PC is a factory OS of Windows 10 64-bit with BIOS 1.1.5 (July 2020).
I have tried the following without success:
- Installed the latest Realtek drivers.
- Installed Windows 10 v2004
- Poked around in audio settings but there is no mic detected.
- Tried unsuccessfully on a 2nd 7080 MT with similar configuration.
I have Pro support but wanted to ask here first.

I have installed the software you suggested and this had no effect at all.

5 of the links above are for the 780 and not the 7080.
Optiplex 7080 Win10 Drivers Pack
Optiplex 7080 Drivers
I think what's available in the above links were attempted already, but there they are.
I don't know how the splitter is suppose to work with one audio jack in front, or does one side plug into the back?

Would be practical to use USB instead? This isn't the first, and probably isn't the last time the universal audio jack has been hard to troubleshoot.
In the link, note some adapters say "headphone" and some say "headset." Some USB adapters would still need a headset splitter. See what you think. https://www.amazon.com/usb-headset-adapter/s?k=usb+headset+adapter&ref=d6k_applink_bb_dls_failed
Another thing - How feasible would it be to use bluetooth? I suppose that's a stretch.

Click on Sound/speaker icon in Control Panel. Does it show both headphones and headset icons? Click on headset icon if it's the headphone icon that's check marked. Win10 chooses headphones by default.

Guys, anyone who is facing this issue with OptiPlex 7080 MT, you just need to install "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" then install "Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application",
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER07042991M/2/Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_KKYCX_WIN_6.0.9116.1_A08.EXE
Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER06009135M/4/Waves-MaxxAudio-Pro-Application_M96FF_WIN64_3.0.30.0_A02_01.EXE
Both are on OptiPlex 7080 XE Micro Form Factor support page but the "Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application" has not been added to OptiPlex 7080 support page !
Guys at DELL, please add this missing app to the OptiPlex 7080 support page to fix this issue that long time ago users of this model have been experiencing.
Hope this helps

@bradthetechnut
Previous post has been edited with the correct 7080 vs 780 information.
CTIA splitter goes both ways.
If there is ONLY 1 jack for headset/earphones its CTIA TRRL
Also depends on what SIZE we are talking about.
If there is a RED for MIC and GREEN for AUDIO then its old school.
The 7080 MICRO does not have rear audio jacks.
7080 Tower only has the green TRS Speaker output on the back.
And I believe that ALL models have CTIA OTIA TRRL port on the front.

Did you ever find a solution to this. I have an issue with a new optiplex 7080 manufactured in 2021
Update = After completing troubleshooting, a DELL-Cares agent setup a part replacement.

Is it possible to solve this issue without having to purchase the audio splitter. For my case I have the towered optiplex 7080 but with both the front and rear audio jack.

Solved it:
- updated the Driver to the recent realtek driver (A13)
- then download Dell Optimizer
here's the link
Dell Optimizer
after it i inserted the headset and selecter headset option and the problem was solved!!!

Thank you for your post. I'll definitely be remembering that one with as many people that have had trouble with the single jack.
