Optiplex 7090 Power Supply Upgrade
I need to upgrade the power supply in new Optiplex 7090 MT. The one that comes in it is of course a proprietary design and underpowered. I need at least 500 Watts to run a decent video card to drive 2 29" QHD monitors. Has anyone found a company that makes one of these? Do I need to just go ahead and void my warranty and do a case mod to make a normal power supply fit?

, will the PCIE slot provide enough power for little better card?
the slot may do 75watts, as most good DT can, but you need to have PSU with the 1 or 2 AUX power cables.
and then you now have that gull wing case, complexity, dells main GPU update page skips the 1060 MT.
so.... I see one card sold new for the 1060 at dell is is 60watt slot card. so is not limited to 25/35watts that slot. x16

what is a 7090 (no such ani-mule(sic)) we learn it is really a 7060, oops. (edit your title?) and not 790 my wild guess, nor is your mobo ATX rules mounted so any new case will take lots of modifications to make it work. the mobo is not ATX power fed either if you look at he PSU see those non ATX power plugs. yup. they sell and adaptor to fit dell, sold from 3rd parties, show here many times. if you search.
look carefully, see this, mobo, its not and ATX spec board,. no rear ATX jack plate,
note the front jacks there, how is that going to fit an alien case.
nor the power jacks. all alien too, ask for the adaptor, it is sold, (the mobo uses non ATX standby power too)

Hi @George.Dodgen,
By any chance did you mean "Optiplex 7060 MT?" Upgrading the PSU as you suggested means it will have to sit outside the case. It's probably still considered a modification and will void the warranty. To know for sure, contact Dell Support direct by using "Contact Support" or "Warranty & Contract" links below this or the last post. Warranty questions can't be answered here. This forum is mainly user to user.
Answers may come here though as to your modification question(s) when we're sure of which Optiplex you have.

I have resigned myself to doing a case mod to make a new power supply fit in that case. A lot of work that is completely unnecessary just Dell wanted to keep their system proprietary. Time for tin snips and dremel tool to cut a little tin!

Any updates on the case mod? Did you succeed ?
