Optiplex 755 gpu upgrade

Hello, I have an old 755 sff and I have been wanting to upgrade the gpu to run more intensive programs. Currently it has 2gb of ram, a radeon 2400 pro, and a core 2 Quad 9400. I know that the pci-e slot is supposedly limited to 25 watts, but I heard somewhere that it could go up to 75 watts although I don't know if that's true. Any suggestions would be helpful because I really don't know what card I should get.

A lot of information in this forum thread about the GPU upgrade.

So does this mean that I can go over the 25 watt limit of the pci-e slot?

@Iamexist

1650 low profile uses 75W so its not recommended.

No issues in tower with 305W power supply.

HD3450 HD5450 HD6450 is fine because its a 30W card.

Another one low profile that works is the Quadro K620 which is 40W.

one user had run a gtx745 in 755sff.  this card TDP is 55w.  go to playtime 5:51.

@Iamexist

You can go a bit higher than 25W with caveats.  40W card  means 24W HDD was replaced with 5W SSD.

50W and HIGHER IS NOT recommended as this presses power supply well beyond 100 percent meaning it will die soon with actual use. The card I recomend is an actual DELL card that I own and have used without issue in Desktop and SFF Models with tiny power supply.

I do also own a DELL oem 745 card.  Its definitely over 50W and it does not come standard with low profile bracket. TC2P0   could be modified but would suffocate in an sff case.

From the Optiplex 755 Tech Guide:

755 SFF has 275w PSU as I stated in the thread linked by JOcean.  One doesn't have to trade one thing for the other - like install GPU and lose the DVD drive.  275w PSU is sufficient to run 75w GPU.  However, a caveat could be heat issues in an SFF.  Speedstep recommends good cards.  Redxps630 does alright at it too.
