Optiplex 780 RAM upgrade
Hey there,
I bought my son some memory sticks to upgrade his computer for xmas but they don't seem to be working....when I say the don't seem to be working, I mean they are not. Upon installation there is no video output whatsoever. Never even a blip of any kind, monitor just reads "no input" then goes to sleep. I updated the BIOS to A15 and I've tried playing musical sticks with ever combination of the new and old sticks and everything between, and I've tried the cmos battery reset. No luck of any kind. I reinstall the memory that was in it and it works fine.
The memory that does work is Samsung 2gb 2Rx8 PC3-8500U.
What I am trying to install is Samsung 4gb 1Rx8 PC3-12000U.

Any help is greatly appreciated

The new ram is too fast for 780 as it appears. Spec for 780 memory is 1066MHz and 1333MHz
that means ddr3-1066 (pc3-8500) and ddr3-1333 (pc3-10600).
That is the fastest ram this model can support.
New ram of ddr3-1600 (pc3-12800 or 12000) is too fast.
