Optiplex 790 SFF with Intel Core i7 2700k CPU
Dear friends,
I have accidentally purchased Intel Core i7 2700k to upgrade my Optiplex 790 SFF machine. I did not try it yet, as it is not yet delivered, but I guess that it will not work, as it was discussed here .
My assumption is that the machine will work, but there will be no graphics, as intel 3000 is not supported by motherboard. Am I correct?
If so, will purchasing an extra video card resolve the problem?
Thank you in advance for your help.

works? , some need bios updated for it to simply work. (it and it alone)
the iPGU is in side the gen 2 CPU, part of it, and needs intel HD driver to make it work or from Dell, or MS.
HD Graphics 2000 (limited by what you see here) no W10 support.
no the 2000/3000 iGPU will not be DEAD, but will be in limp mode MDBA, the MS driver will be working but vastly limited features !
you;ll see......
you never told what OS you want to run.???
Cards, 79mm tall low profile cards ONLY FIT, and length on any PC can be problem, not measured first.
but if running 10, any GPU that has w10 Drivers work. even GTX1650 works in my 790 and 20 + more.
Cards tested. and 12,000 other users of card and 790
if you need list of w10 ready cards, this is easy. (works , not fit, fit IS YOUR Job to measure space inside))
low profile , length short is best. measure it and buy what fits, using this. list
the w10 list is here, for cards, nvidia 7 series up and ATI/AMD.5450 up.
GPU rules, 101

SFF can fit a low profile video card. I'm thinking about MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP 4GB, but they say it will only work with Windows 10. What is your opinion?
Thank you.

Your maker has no drivers they use the NVIDIA drivers and shows w7-10, are you 64bit? w7 -64bit?
Click series10 and read.
MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP 4GB
show a link to this card, so we can RTM on your card, see full spec.
the rumor that w7 will not run the card are dead wrong. PROOF IS HERE, if this is your card.
the card uses 75watts off the x16 slot , some SFF do not like this level of power used, there.
the MSI instructions are horrible, and wrong, I'd never buy from them, every step wrong order. an skips.
1: remove old driver first. missing
2: at old card, the x16 slot has a lock , trip the lock or the card will not come out.
to name 2 errors , only.
worst documents i have ever seen on any card. there.
go with Asus or with Zoac. (what I do first is RTM, if the manual is lame so be maker)
show real link to your card, no really, so we can see TRUTH.
there are 12 makers of cards, and each has 10 or more models and 10 submodels, POST A REAL URL.
or shop at newegg and use the filters, for sure click low profile only cards, there, on the left side and win./

Windows 7 is installed.
w10 update is free, why run w7 now, at EOL.. end of life.
Sorry, I still did not get if it will work with the video card installed.
\no card stated by you not one, yet. show full name of card model and sku or answers will be wrong
show a link to you exact card online or photos of the SKU tags on card then magic happens, correct answers.

I've bought this one:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC Low Profile 4GB, GV-N105TOC-4GL.
I'm not sure that the shop where I've bought it provides an accurate description, so you can google it by model if you like.
The only issue that I noticed is the loud GPU fan noise when playing games. It is really loud. However I run GTA V on high with avg 45 fps. I know that the PC is not for gaming.
