Optiplex 9010 USB 3.0 stopped working in Windows 10

I have a older Dell Optiplex 9010 that the USB 3.0 has just one day stopped working it shows in device manger it's working but when I plug in anything into any of the USB 3.0 ports nothing happens. The only way to get it working is to uninstall the drivers then reinstall them then it works but not for long after a restart it stops working again. It seems like Windows 10 has put in their own version of this driver and it keeps over riding any older driver after a restart. Windows installed a driver that was released in 2020.

I have already tried to install the chipset drivers and the Intel Management Engine Components driver but I can't find any on the Dell site for the Intel USB 3.0 controller.

Could use some help

Did this start occurring after a Windows update?

The spec's are: Intel i7-3770 16GB memory 500GB Samsung SSD 4TB hard drive MSI GT 710 1GB D-Link AC1200 PCIe wireless Blu-Ray burner Card reader Wireless keyboard and mouse I don't think it was caused by a Windows 10 update cause I put the Windows 10 version 1909 DVD in to reinstall a clean copy of Windows and it was working at first but not for long. I had no problems for months using Windows 10 on this computer but one day the USB 3.0 ports just stopped working when they worked the day before fine. I do know by looking up the Intel USB 3.0 controller there's no supported drivers past Windows 7 there's not even Windows 8 drivers. Also doing a search on this Dell model with USB 3.0 not working on Windows 10 get's a lot of hits on Google so it seems to be a very common problem with this Dell model and Windows 10. This is my spare system now cause of this problem I ended up getting a newer AMD Ryzen based computer and unplugged this Dell computer now I am looking at buying a new computer to replace this Dell as a spare computer. I can't even sell this computer with this problem so I'm stuck with it.

It was a power setting in Windows 10 the box to turn off the usb ports to save power was checked after I unchecked that box everything is working fine. Screenshot is from my new computer but it's the same in the Dell

If it's not Win10, it sounds like an MB problem.  If you want to keep the 9010 going, the fix would be to replace the MB.  Should be some good deals on ebay.  Be sure to get at least a 30-day return policy.

The other option is a more expensive computer shop.

Good call @AdamG1982.  I've seen that before and forgot about it.  That should definitely be unchecked first.

I don't see how that box being checked would save power anyway, as power is only used if USB device is plugged in.
