Optiplex 990 random restarts

Question

Hi, my 990 MT is restarting randomly or occasionally not powering up. I have swapped out the PSU, the HDD, the processor (i7 2600). I’ve removed all 4 sticks of RAM and tried them one at a time in different ports. what do you guys think? Dead / faulty motherboard? Dodgy power button? I’m about ready to give in and scrap the whole thing.

1. Maybe. Some go flakey in later-life (others even sooner). :Crying:

2. Easy enough to test/troubleshoot. Also, I don't see how that would cause random restarting.

I should have mentioned that, whilst the machine was under warranty from the company that refurbished the machine they replaced the power cable after a fault. The replacement is only just long enough and is a little stressed from the look of it. That’s why I’m suspicious of it. You’re right though, I’ll get a meter on it and see if I’ve got a bad connection.
