Optiplex 990 Upgrades
Hi, I'm wondering if I can fit an atx/sfx psu into a 990 and if not can I transfer the organs of a Dell optiplex 990 sff into a normal case and then put in a 400w atx psu.
Also can I run a 1050ti through the pcie slot (no cables)?
I'm asking because I'm not sure if the motherboard uses some weird proprietary psu or is weird shape and will not fit in normal case.

The more I think about it, the more I think it would work.
i5 = 95w
1050ti=75w
And we'll add an extra 10w for hdd n things and thats only 180w n ive read dells have some thing in their psu's that can deliver an extra 20 watts or so if needed for a short time.

So I need a bigger psu but I can't upgrade psu?
I have a feeling the 1050ti could run on 260 w but I won't risk it. Might get a 1050.

Try the following forum post for more information. The 1050Ti does not need a separate power plug but it does require a 300W PSU minimum. The PSU in your system is 240W. And the PSU on the SFF is proprietary and not upgradeable.

It might be worth a try. On paper it looks like a no go. But the following post should offer some encouragement.

The stock power supply is TOO SMALL for a 75W video card. Standard Power Supply like EVGA 750B1 works fine. 75W card will over a short period kill the power supply causing flashing AMBER power button and Dead PC. Standard power supply DOES NOT FIT inside the Small Desktop case only MINI TOWER.
