power unit upgrade

Desktop AJT9PMS

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz

Hi, new user here: I would like to upgrade the power supply on the above computer but difficulty finding right dimensions. I have just been given a GIGABYTE GT1030 graphics card but only have 250 supply onboard. Do i need to upgrade and if so which PSU do i need.

Any help appreciated.

@Woody10

You can use standard power supply by removing internal power supply and runing the wires thru the hole left behind.

Keep in mind the edges of the hole are sharp so you might want to use duct tape over the edges to protect the wires from shorting.

Can you please post the Dell model number such as Optiplex 3050 for example (that is just an example as your model may quite probably be different).

Sorry thought i had put it in header: 390 desktop but it seems the internal layout is of a mini tower as the power unit is different to the desktop and SSF model. Del unit model no. D250AD-00. thanks for your quick response390 desktop390 desktop.J.power unitpower unit

looks like you have a sata hdd.  if you disconnect power to optical drive, your stock 250W psu is good enough to drive gt 1030.  based on basic online psu calculator, i5-2400,  2x 4gb ddr3, gt1030, sata 7.2k, no dvd rw,

Load Wattage:201 W
Recommended PSU Wattage:251 W

I don't know about that PSU calculator.  What I do know is some YouTubers will run 75w cards off of the 250w PSU's, though it's not recommended and outside of Dell specs.  Therefore, no need to disconnect DVD RW to run a GT 1030.  And don't some games still use that?

Also, an SSD uses only 5v vs. an HDD using 12v.  Not only is an SSD a performance enhancer, it saves some power.
