High Definition Audio drivers are generic, basic function, Windows installed drivers.
Realtek is a hardware device driver.
The OptiPlex 980 is not supported by Dell for Win 10 (Win 7 is the newest OS and the Win 7 sound driver is not Win 10 compatible). Considering it is very old the High Definition driver is probably the only one that MAY work. However as it is a generic driver how well it works can be iffy. Best suggestion is to get a USB connected sound card that is Win 10 compatible.

Thank you. Yes, I know it's old but it is what was available. As the other person suggested I'll try just deleting the whole Realtek-AMD stuff and see. If that fails I'll get a plug-in sound card
If I delete the Intel audio bus, or the AMD audio device, they arrive back after the next boot-up. Getting the Win7 graphics driver from Dell won't install, and I know the audio bus driver in in there since the log shows an attempt. But, the install is one of those cuties that cleans up so I'll need to shred it all out with 7Zip in order to do any troubleshooting.
So, I'm just going to see if I can find a sound card.

Nothing should be left behind if old AMD card is removed. Nothing in DeviceManager should be in error.
Uninstall and Delete all audio and video drivers and reboot.
On next startup, existing audio/video devices should PnP and load basic (working) Windows-10 drivers from local-driver-cache or Windows-Update.

The OEM drivers work fine.
No need to install a card.

If you unzip the cab file set using 7zip for the model you have into the My Documents Library.
You can then right click on update my driver and say find the drivers on my machine.
This will then automatically find and install the correct drivers.
