We have one and current with 2 blade installed and 2 more blade to come. Server itselfs seems to have no problem. Performace is about the same as others. However we are having some problems with the 2 PowerConnect 5316M Switches that it restart on its own from time to time.
This definitely needs to be investigated by tech support as the switch units should not be rebooting. Please give us a call at 1-800-822-8965 and follow the option for Server Support. I am confident we can resolve this issue.
I have already logged a call with the support team, Eoin Griffin is on the case and hoping we will get some info back from him soon.
Below is the error log we got from the switch when if restart itself:
%SYSLOG-F-OSFATAL: FATAL ERROR: SNMP: ABORT DATA exception ***** FATAL ERROR ***** SW Version : 1.0.0.24 Version Date: 23-Sep-2004 Version Time: 19:31:17 Instruction 0x20c24 Exception vector 0x10 Program state register 0x20000013 ***** END OF FATAL ERROR *****
I have 2 1855 blades and they seem to be ok except for one thing. The IP address keeps changing for some reason. i know it sounds impossible but, i have witnesses. It's happened on both. I used a temp IP address to get the OS installed. It's an IP address I use to set up every server. After the server is set up, I give it the real IP address. One day (Before the server went into production) I went to log in to one of the blade servers and got the IP address is in use. I noticed that it had reverted back to the setup IP address. I thought I forgot to change it until it happened again. And then it happened on the other blade server. Since then, we've given up. We've just assigned the setup IP address to one of the blade servers and I now use a different one to set up with. I'd open up a ticket with Dell but, I don't think they'd believe me and they'd have me bouncing these servers for hours on the phone. They're production servers now and in use 24/7.
The only reason I found your post is because I've been researching this problem
We had both switches replaced at the end of March, it was first seems to be working ok until we notice from the log that both switches still restart itself once every 2 weeks. Have emailed the tech support today.
Speaking of the 1855 Blade. I notice on the Dell website that it doesn't include the enclosure price. I asked my Dell Rep how much the enclosure & switch cost but didn't get a quote.
Anyone know approx how much the enclosure and extras cost?
