2950 not recognizing new memory

I have three 2950's that are going to be used for Exchange 2010 and I need to bring the specs on two of them to 32GB RAM (one is already at 32GB). So I used Premier Dell and ordered four 8x2 memory kits of Dell certified RAM that I looked up via the service tags.

When I put the four DIMMS in the slots it won't recognize any of them. The slots are configured  8 0 8 0 8 0 8 0. The previous configuration was 2GB DIMMS in the same slots. I verified the memory is the exact same kind.

The system won't boot and says "No memory." What gives?

Turns out that the 2950 can't recognize 8GB DIMMs unless the BIOS is newer than 2.3.1. It also needs a firmware update for the BMC backplane. Those two enabled it to work.

I had a similar issue with a CPU upgrade where it wouldn't recognize the new quad-core CPUs. I reset the BIOS by unplugging power-cords and removing the CMOS battery for about 10 minutes. Then plugging everything back. The boot afterwards ended up detecting the new hardware.

The Premier Dell website doesn't always have the correct parts for your model. I've had it suggest Xeon 54xx CPUs that definitely were not compatible with my server. Are you sure you got FB-DIMMs instead of just regular DDR2 memory?
