Stepping is almost like a version number. If the processors are working fine together there should be no concern that the stepping numbers are different. As for the fan issue, check to see that the fans aer running then make sure the system bios, ESM/ERA firmware are up-to-date, then reinstall Open Manage. Below is a link to the latest downloads:

I updated the bios from A09 to A11 and Dell OpenManage Server Administrator from 1.7 to 1.9.
Now everything is working great.
