Adding a internal SSD to a R610

Hello all, I want to use an SSD for boot my os on my R610 home server I don't remember all the memory and CPU specs if it is necessary to let me know and i will look them up, but i do know it has a PERCi raid card and 6x600gb HDD in the hotplug slots. Inside the case, by the this is a metal bracket that allows me to physically mount an SSD and i was wondering what cables i would need and where i would plug in these cables if possible being i already have all the 6 hot-plug slots filled.

Thank you!!

Hello,

The issue you'll run into is that the system board only has one SATA connector, which is intended for use with the optical drive (based on pages 165 and 166 of the manual, linked below). You may be able to disconnect the optical drive and connect the drive there, but it wouldn't be an officially supported configuration. I suspect you could take power from the DVD drive, as well. The R610 did have SSD support, so I'd encourage you to look at validated part numbers, but that having been said, I used non-validated hard drives in my R710 and never had an issue. Just be advised that your mileage may vary and you may run into issues with some drives.

Let me know if this helps, or if you have any additional questions.
