Hi anane.kwevi.

The R730 supports hot-plug hard drives, so it is no problem if you add the new drives while the system is running.

Please refer to the Owners Manual starting on page 148 (https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/poweredge-r730_owners-manual2_en-us.pdf?dgc=SM&cid=376139&lid=spr3997829176&linkId=102893480). It will guide you through the hardware installation.

If you want to add them to an existing virtual drive, follow the instructions in our article Dell PowerEdge: How to change the RAID level of a Virtual Disk (https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln305744/dell-poweredge-how-to-change-the-raid-level-of-a-virtual-disk?lang=en).

Before doing this, you should backup all your files and also think about doing it while downtime is ongoing. It will work even when the system is online but we cannot be held responsible for data loss.

Hope that helps.

Best regards
Stefan
