I've also just started recieving this error on a PowerEdge 1400SC (PERC2 controller). I emailed support about it, but they didnt know where the error was coming from, and I am not too keen on taking the server apart (as was suggested by support) without knowing what the error is from/caused by. Have you resolved yours yet?
i have not received any feed back on this at all. the problem still exists and i can find nothing about it on the net. we can not be the only two people in the world having this problem. what perc do you have in your system?
This message sounds like from a software product that allows your networked computer to boot using a program code image supplied by a remote server. To verify my presumption you should remove any PCI NICs and disable any onboard NIC in the system BIOS.
After googling, it seems the perc2 is a scsi-card, right? I don't have scsi at all.
I suspect the message is from the BIOS. Maybe it's trying to tell us that it can't boot from the device (It can't boot from your SCSI-Card and it can't boot from my network-card). Unfortunately, I'm kinda stuck now...
i have a similar card. i noticed that i started receiveing this message when i rebuilt the server with the orig dell boot cdrom. i am running 2k server now. i am leaning to this being a perc issue because when i updated the firmware on everything is when i started getting this error.
what did dell tech support want you to try ?
maybe some one that works for dell with respond and give us some things we can try. does anyone know where i can get older firmware for a PE6300 ?i have the machine uptodate from the website.
They suggested taking the server apart one card at a time until the error dissapeared....which I'd happily do if it was just a workstation, but I'm not about to take down my main server to play with it when I figure that someone (?!) really ought to know the error codes in the firmware, be it the PERC, or the BIOS.
wow that does not seem right. once again i can't believe we are the only two people to have experianced this. you know you might want to try and call back and see if maybe you just got a bad tech !
Do you have PXE enabled? I still belive this is typically a NIC related issue. Is it possible to disable PXE and test without a network cable connected or remove/disable all NICs for troubleshooting?
Hrm, well now that you mention it, I've also got a 3COM gigabit network card (3C2000), is this something that everyone here having the problem has? (Or similar?) I'm not sure about the PXE settings, I've only just recently installed the card and its been disabled (in windows) up to this point since I'm still using the on-board card.

I've got the Dell PERC2/DC (from original configuration on the server it notes it as:
44TXF Card (Circuit), Controller, PERC2-DC, PCI/S, Length, Long, REV1
In the array manager its noted as PERC 2/DC firmware 1.04, with 64MB of cache.
Is that the same one you're running? similar firmware?

The Error message came with the installation of a 3COM Gigabit card (3C2000). I didn't ask 3COM about this until now.
My machine has 1GB RAM and a large HD (CAD workstation).
Maybe someone finds a solution :-)

Problem Solved. after talking to 3com if you have to many cards with bootroms in older dell servers you will get the invalid boot rom error.
fix this problem go into the diag software that came with your nic and dissable the boot rom on the 3com card.
i also had the 3c2000-t nic in my system.
i now have no more problems !
if you call 3com ask about their internal document 3kb5310

electroland, thank you!
Can someone tell me why my other posts in this thread were deleted? Because I don't use DELL-Hardware?
