Can't boot again to OS/ load system

Power edge 2650, I booted once successful to Ubuntu server installation but the server restarted due to power loss, when I tried to boot in again it got stuck in loading screen after bios. After rebooting again after waiting 2hrs the server could no longer boot into Ubuntu. It has said no bootable device? Trying to instal Ubuntu server 10.0.4 32bit using CD-R. Cd dvd does not seem to be working at all. I tried to instal windows server 2008 32bit and Ubuntu desktop and server again fresh burn. All the CDs seem to stop working for whatever reason.

Hi, sorry to hear that. First I have to say Ubuntu is not supported OS by PE 2650 related link is https://dell.to/368PcsA

I don't know what happened exactly but might be GRUB bootloader issue occur after Ubuntu installation. I've suspected GRUB because of when the ubuntu installation MBR harddrive is overwritten and it could be format to GPT(UEFI). You can check boot order and UEFI/BIOS settings in BIOS. I'm not a Linux expert but I found this article it can help https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Installing;

Let us know if this helps!

Hi, Thank you for the super quick reply and help. However, I can't seem to instal the ubuntu fix tool onto a cd as it is too bit and DVD does not work with the server, as far as my knowledge goes. I cant try to instal windows as it only goes to DVD format, I could not find a way to split the Iso into 3 different CD-R drives. I have also formated/reset the bios completely and it did not fix the issue. I checked the CDs again and they booted fine, one become corrupted for some reason.

I saw and heard people instal ubuntu server 10.0.4 on the Dell server. I did manage to boot into it but then no more. How can I get the windows server 2008 iso onto the cd? Any other ideas on how to fix it? The CD drive does boot up on the start and when I put in the CD plates. Also, the floppy drive seems to light up now for some reason.

Thanks

Hi, any idea how to fix the bios/UEFI? I still can't boot into the Linux CDs. Thanks for the help, maybe the PXE boot will finally work.

Have you verified if the CD-Rom happens to be first in the boot order? You can verify this under Boot Sequence in the BIOS.

Yes, First I have the CD-Hard drive- Discrete Drive A? CD drive has the tick next to it as well as the Hard drive. It does boot up as well, green light flashing on startup, and if I insert a new CD.

I did research to see if it can be done with usb, but as far as I know, the PE 2650 cannot boot to USB devices. So I guess you will need to enable PXE and set the network as first boot and press F12 and select network at boot and try.
