Connect DSL to Ethernet Switch

We purchased a new server system from Dell with a Gigbit Ethernet Switch with the understanding we would be able to connect a DSL modem to the switch and all workstations would be able to access the internet through it. Our local DSL installer came out and could not get it connected but was not allowed by his own company to look into our server to look at settings. Can someone tell me if this will work or will I need a router connected to the switch, or would it be easier just to insert a second NIC card just for the DSL modem.
If it will work can you give some insight on the steps needed to get it up and runnming or maybe a site that has it already.

TIA

Why is this posted in a Server Forum?    Are the desktops getting any sort of DHCP or DNS from the server, if you have one?

Hi,

Can you supply more details about your DSL router and the type of DSL service that you have subsribed to.  Does your DSL work on a standalone PC or is it not connecting at all?  What you are trying to do is fairly standard practise and if you have the right DSL package it should be fairly simple to set up.  Give me some more details and I will try to help if I can.

Regards

Bob

Do you really want to connect DSL to Ethernet? If yes, it is possible to do.

But if your device don't support DSL or you are facing an unwanted issue with DSL. Recommend to convert DSL to Ethernet line first. Ethernet look like a wired connection but it helps you to give speed up internet connection.

You said "Our local DSL installer came out and could not get it connected ". This case Ethernet connection would be very helpful for you.
