D640 won't post if CPU2 is installed

I Have a Dell PowerEdge R640 that won't post if I have CPU2 installed. It booted fine with CPU1 and I have swapped between them and both booted up fine individually.

I have replaced CPU2 and System board and still have the same issue. 

I have removed all PCI cards and DIMM's with minimum configuration same thing..

Any other idea?

This server is out of warranty

In no particular order (not directly mentioned as checked):

  • Make sure CPUs are identical including CPU stepping.
  • Make sure RAM is populated properly (A-B).
  • Make sure the PS(s) you have are rated for the additional load.
  • Make sure to update BIOS/firmware to latest.
