Have you checked Google or Wikipedia for a definition of BTU?

The flowrate is the amount of air that's blown out of the fans in a certain period of time.

OK. Do you know what's the unit "CFM" of the airflow? Best bet for BTU I found was British Thermal Unit. I'm not familiar with this stuff so perhaps I need to do some more searching... Thanks.

12,000 per ton of air.

With around 600 cfm coming out of your tile, life in the datacenter should be good.

An easy rule (without having to really learn) would be 20,000-30,000 tons per 1000 sqaure feet in a raised floor center.

I beileve the author meant 20,000-30,000 BTU.  2 tons of A/C is 24,000 BTU and 3 tons would be 36,000 BTU.  That is likely a bit low.  A single Dell rack about 1/2 full of say 2950 III servers rates at consuming over a ton of A/C.

Since the electricity consumed by the equipment directly correlates to heat output, you will typically need about 1 ton of A/C for every 3500-4000 watts of electricity you consume.
