Degraded RAID 1 Array - Foreign Disk

Hi

We have a T320 server with H710 controller that has two disks in RAID 1 for the system drive and 3 disks in RAID 5 for storage.

We have an issue in that backups relating to the system drive are failing - that is C Drive, Bare Metal Restore etc. with "Incorrect Function" . The D Drive, which is essentially th eRaid 5 array backups fine.

It looks like the problem is the RAID 1 array. PERCCLI shows the RAID1 array as degraded. One of the drives has a State of Unconfirmed Good and, rather than being in DG0 where it should be, it shows as Foreign (or F)

I need to to sort this but given that I don't have a backup I can restore from I am understandably a little nervous. What is the best way to put the drive back in the array?

Robin-RedFez,

Just to confirm, are you able to boot into the Raid 1, and is the data present? I ask as the process is different between the two issues.

If the Raid 1 is bootable then I would recommend that you acces the controller BIOS and then CLEAR the foreign configuration. Now if the Raid 1 is not bootable, then I would suggest access the controller BIOS and then IMPORT the foreign configuration.

Basically what a foreign drive is, is a drive that is reporting different Virtual Disk Configuration data than what the controller has saved. So if you can boot correctly then normally the controller configuration data is correct, but if you can't boot a Virtual Disk then it is likely that controller data is incorrect, so you would Import that data from the drive.

Let me know if this helps.
