Dell PowerEdge 2650 Broadcom NetXtreme Speed/Duplex Issue

Hello,

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2650 NetXtreme adapter that I am trying to set to 100/FULL.  When it is set to AUTO, I negotiate no problem, but when I statically set speed and duplex, it does not make a network connection.  I have updated the drivers to 7.80.00.0 (6/19/2004), and have tried things, such as, enabling/disabling adapters, restarting machine, etc.  The switch I am trying to connect to is a Nortel Passport 8006.  I have other devices set to negotiate at 100/FULL static, and some of these are Dell servers.  I am wondering why this one does not work?  The OS is Windows 2000 Server w/ SP3.  The other Dell servers I am connecting at 100/FULL static with are also using the Broadcom NetXtreme adapters.  Does anyone have any good ideas?

Kind Regards,

Remember; IEEE spec states you must match the settings at both link partners. So; if you want a static 100 full setting, you must hard set the switch port to 100 Full duplex; and the LOM at 100 Full duplex.

BTW, in most cases leaving the switch and the LOM at auto works just fine. (As you allow the two link partkes to negoiate the fastest link)

Your symptom sounds like a duplex mismatch to me. You only had set the LOM.

Hope this helps.

Just following up to see if you got this fixed. As the previous poster stated, you must match your settings. If you hard code the server to 100/Full, you must do this on the switch as well.

sample 8600 settings:

config ether 1/1 auto disable
config ether 1/1 speed 100
config ether 1/1 duplex full
