For the least problems, get the exact matching model, not just the number, but also the stepping. Google CPU-Z for a (Windows) tool that can help ID your processor exactly.
To be safe I would match the step code of the one that you have and you will need a heatsink that will fit in the 2900. The voltage regulator is on the mainboard.

Should be able to just add the PROC and heatsink. The VRM is built into the MB.
