Dell PowerEdge 2950 - Server Halted!

We were trying to boot a Dell PowerEdge 2950 rack server with 4GB of RAM, which was just transported by air. Unfortunately, no luck. We are getting the error message "PCIe training error: internal storage slot." and then "Server halted!" Also on the LCD display it shows "Rome E2022 Post fail". This is very strange since the server was working well just before being transported. What could possibly be the problem? Please help! Thank you

Did you try reseating the RAID controller?

You might also try clearing the NVRAM using the motherboard jumpers.

Remove the RAID controller ... it will probably boot ... you'll likely need to replace it.

Also try reseating the cable connections for the PCIe sideplane where the controller is connected - at both ends of the cable.

The NVRAM jumper needs to be moved to the CLR position while OFF and UNPLUGGED.  Plug it in and turn it on, and you should see a message about the jumper being installed; power off, unplug, return the jumper to the original position, then plug in and power back on normally.

Yes I have tried reseating the RAID controller. I have also tried to boot with only one CPU and one RAM and removing the SAS disks. But the problem still persists. How do you clear the NVRAM using the jumpers? Anything else to try?

Hello, I tried booting the server after removing the RAID controller, however, the "System halted!" error persisits.

Also, I moved the NVRAM jumper to the CLR position while the server is off and unplugged, then turned the server on, but I did not see any message about the jumper being installed. All I see is the "system halted" error.

what could be the final resolution.

thank you for your help

I'd say replacing the motherboard is your next step.

Make sure you reseat the cable from the sideplane to the motherboard.

Remove ALL expansion cards (reseat the risers), all drives, all memory, processor #2 (swap with processor #1) and see if you get a 1-3-2 beep code.  If not, replace your motherboard.  If so, put one stick of memory in and try.
