Dell PowerEdge R715: Memory Errors

Hello. I am seeing some memory errors in the System Log when I log in to the iDrac of my server. The errors are:

  • Persistent correctable memory error rate has increased for a memory device at location DIMM_A7.
  • Persistent correctable memory error logging disabled for a memory device at location DIMM_A7.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Does this mean that the memory in that slot is bad, and needs to be replaced?

Thanks!

Thanks for the service tag, Rusty

You can run the 32 bit diagnostics which has a memory test. It can be found at:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/product-support/product/poweredge-r715/drivers

This will likely confirm the memory problems you already seeing.

The testing suggested earlier will probably be needed. If you do need to go onsite, I would suggest taking a replacement DIMM with you if replacement is needed.

Hi,

There are a couple of things we can check before determining if the DIMM needs to be replaced.

If you have 2 processors, swap DIMM_A7 with DIMM_B7 and see if the problem moves with the DIMM or stays with the slot. Swap with DIMM_A1 if there isn't a B side. This will also check to see if there is a problem with slot. Reseating the DIMM can also help with DIMM errors.

Also, make sure the BIOS is up to date.

Please send a private message with your service tag to ensure we have all appropriate information on your system.

Thank you,

Jim,

Thanks for the reply. This server is in my Atlanta Data Center, and I am in South Carolina. Is there any kind of diagnostic tool that can be run remotely, or something inside the IDRAC? The server is running Linux, and is a VMware ESXi Host. If not, I will need to schedule some downtime, and figure out when i can drive to Atlanta.

I will PM you the service tag now.

Thanks,

Rusty
