Dell Poweredge R730XD with maximum u.2 NVMe in 2.5" slot
Hi,
May I know, what is the maximum u.2 NVMe that can be use to in 2.5" Slot for Dell Poweredge R730XD?
I planned to get a maximum storage and maximum available slot with additional expansion card ( Dell U.2 NVME Expansion Card PN: 0GY1TD with PCIE Cables )
PS: 2 x Dell 240GB SSD will be on the back of the server
Please advise.
Thanks

Adzrul,
The largest U.2 NVMe drive I show for the R730xd is a Samsung 6.4TB drive part # F6V5P.
Now to address the card (GY1TD), that I am not showing as supported on the R730xd. The R730xd, with a 24 2.5 drive backplane, already supports U.2 NVMe drives in slot 20-23. The reason being is the expander is embedded on the backplane itself.
Let me know if this helps.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for your reply.
Is it possible if I use all 24 slots 2.5 for Dell R730XD with u.2 nvme + 2 slots for 2.5" on the back of the serer?
Means 24 x Samsung 6.4TB + 2 x 2.5" dell ssd on the back of the server.
Please advise
Thanks

Adzrul,
You wouldn't be able to use only NVM drives in the server. The R730xd supports up to twenty 2.5-inch hard drives, up to four 2.5-inch (U.2)
NVMe drives (in slots 20 to 23) and up to two optional 2.5-
inch back-accessible hard drives.
So that being said it only supports NVMe drives in the specific slots (20-23), so anything beyond that would be unsupported and based on trial and error.
