Dell R640 CPU Support
Hello there,
I got two R640 servers here, one with 2x Xeon Silver 4110 and one with 2x Xeon Silver 4210. Looking at the technical specs both are supported, what I’m unable to see if there are different requirements for upgrading to a 4210 like other system board, BIOS version etc.
Before I upgrade I want to make sure it’s compatible 😄. Made almost the same mistake with an HP Server where two CPU generations where supported, but needed a different motherboard version.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,
You should be able to do that. I did not see a requirement for a different system board.
I would recommend you are up to date on the system board firmware: iDRAC and BIOS.

Hello,
We do have the 4210 for the R640:
Part #
338-BSDG
Intel Xeon Silver 4210 2.2G, 10C/20T, 9.6GT/s, 13.75M Cache, Turbo, HT (85W) DDR4-2400, CK
Complex Upgrade requires use of regional processor upgrade guides. Contact Sales for quote and purchase.
Since there are Regional requirements it is best to contact Sales and they can provide you quote for purchase.
US and Germany part numbers are not always the same.

Hey,
yes sure, that what I knew. What I was interested to know, If I'm able to upgrade the 4110 server with an 4210 CPU or if I need a new motherboard etc. :) I'm not sure for example if different BIOS versions exists and so on
