Dell T30 Black Screen
Hi All - We have a customer with a Dell T30 Server with Server 2016 installed.
At Christmas 2021 it rebooted itself and had a Registry Repair Error on Boot (possibly following a automatic windows update).
I recovered it from backup to working server but found that every time a Windows Update was applied the server would develop the Registry error again.
After running through all the Fix options in scannow etc... and seeing that there were no issues - but everytime the updates were put on it developed the same problem, the only available option was to turn off future windows updates and this solved the issue up to today.
Now the server has a Black screen with moveable cursor but no desktop and no availablility to do ctrl+alt+del or WIn+R .
The site remains unaffected by this issue and can see the shares and login fine also internet is working ... but we cannot administer the Server as we have no desktop.
We have not yet rebooted the server as the customers is working unaffected but obviously we need to do something for the future.
So before we do anything, has anyone had these same issues with a Dell T30 Server?
many thanks for any advice
Stuart

StuartSmithz,
While we don't support OS issues, what I would suggest is to make sure the T30 is up to date on all of its firmware, as it may be the updates the OS is running is needing the updated firmware or BIOS revisions to function correctly. You might also check on microsofts posts that address this issue.
Let me know if this helps.

Hi Chris -
Thanks for the feedback and yes I will give that a shot and get back to the forum with an update once I have completed the updates.
