Dismantling a 2850

Our PowerEdge 2850 has just died. The first thing I thought I'd check is that everything looks OK, so I go to take it apart ... and can't figure it out!

There's no visible screws or catches ... how do you get inside ?!!

Remove the front bezel.  There are two thumb screws - one on either side of the CD Rom drive near the top of the server.  Loosen these screws.  Push the top cover towards the rear and then lift the cover up.

D'oh ... was trying that yesterday, obviously not pushing hard enough!!

Thanks!

Next question, the board on the left hand side that levers into place ... is that the RAID controller? We're having boot problems, think that might be to blame.

That is the PCI Riser.  It holds the PCI slots.

Correct the Raid/Perc is onboard the Riser card as well as the PCI slots.

Depending on the type of riser you have you might see the ROMB Dimm on the riser.

Sorry for the slightly off topic question but not having luck anywhere else:

I am currently running precision 670's with pci-e video cards (nvidia 4500).  Looking for a rack mount solution that will replace the 670's.  In considering the 2850 will pci-e video cards work with the 8X pci-e riser in the 2850?  I haven't seen a pci-e 8X slot and in searching I am not sure if they are compatable with the 16X cards I have.

Thanks in advance.

No Dell servers only seem to have 4x PCI-E slots. At least all the ones that I've seen.
