DSU Repeatedly Installing Same Packages

Hello,

I have observed an issue with the Dell Server Update Utility (DSU) on several of our Dell R440 servers (specifications: Intel Xeon Silver 4114, 2 x 16GB DDR4, 1 x 1TB SATA 2.5”, PERC H330). The DSU attempts to reinstall the following packages every time it is run:

• Drivers-for-OS-Deployment_Application_NR0JY_LN_24.01.04_A00

• Systems-Management_Application_7Y30Y_LN64_5.3.1.0_A00

Steps to reproduce:

1. Run DSU, which updates the mentioned packages.

2. Reboot the server.

3. Upon the next DSU execution, it attempts to update the OS Drivers Pack and Diagnostics again.

In the iDRAC WebUI, the OS Drivers Pack and Diagnostics components are listed as “Not Installed” under the Firmware Version:

Could you provide guidance on resolving this issue?

Rudniev.vv,

The issue of DSU attempting to update the same component has to be either an inventory issue, or that the update hasn't actually completed successfully yet.

Let me know if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H I may be wrong, but It seems that the ‘Not installed’ inscription in the iDRAC web interface indicates that this component does not require an update.

With this one you may want to run a TSR on the server, as outlined here. Afterwards you can upload the TSR to your Service Request as outlined here. I will private message you the Service Request # for you to use.

Another option would be for you to call in and ask for the openmanage group and work with them directly to resolve the issue.

@DELL-Chris H

Hello Chris,

Apologies for the delay, and thank you for the service request number.

I’ve fetched the TSR on the server where the issue occurred, but I can’t upload it to the Service Request Details page. There is no upload button, so it seems I lack the necessary permissions:

Do me a favor and try it again and see if it allows you to now.

Thanks.

@DELL-Chris H

Oh, Chris, it seems I mixed up the forum topics and initially fetched the TSR on the wrong server. I’ve now fetched the TSR from the server where the issue described in this forum post is occurring.

Apologies for the confusion.

I've fetched the TSR for the current issue as soon as I can access the server.

It does appear the issue is with the tool, so I have gone ahead and submitted it, so we will need to wait see what they decide to do.

Thanks again for being patient and taking the time to let us know of the issue.
